    DANTES Home

DANTES funds only one administration each of the GRE General (CBT) and GRE Subject (paper-based) exams per lifetime for eligible Service members. GRE Subject exams taken at a National Test Center are not reimbursable.

The GRE General is a computer-based test (CBT) available exclusively through Prometric and selective college and university test centers. The registration and scheduling policies and procedures are contained in the GRE Information Bulletin and on the GRE website: http://www.gre.org

DANTES strongly encourages prospective military examinees to thoroughly review these two resources before registering for the GRE General CBT.

The GRE General Test measures skills not directly related to any specific field of study. It consists of verbal reasoning sections, quantitative sections, and analytical writing sections.

    National Test Center Fee: $140
    International Test Center Fee: $170

DANTES reimburses eligible military examinees only the test fee after the administration of the test. Military examinees must seek reimbursement within 90 days from the test date. The examinee is responsible for scheduling the test and paying for the GRE up-front. To determine the eligibility requirements and the procedures for requesting reimbursement of the GRE test fee, military examinees should contact the DANTES Test Control Officer at the servicing military education center or Navy College Office.

To apply for reimbursement, download the required form from the box below:

    GRE SUBJECT EXAMINATIONS

The GRE Subject tests remain paper-based tests available through DANTES Test Centers for funded military testing. Eligible overseas civilians may test on an unfunded, space available basis.

The GRE Subject tests measure achievement in specific fields of study (knowledge in either an undergraduate major or extensive background in the specific subject) and mastery of the concepts, principles, and knowledge basic to success in specific graduate fields.

Overseas Civilian Test Fee and Retest Fee: $170(except Korea which remains $175)
