Higher Education Programs

DANTES provides professional leadership and management of three Department of Defense (DoD) contracts with Higher Education organizations. These organizations include the American Council on Education (ACE),  which conducts the Military Evaluation Program, the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU), which conducts the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) Programs, and the Third Party Assessment Program (formerly the MIVER contract).

Military Evaluation Program

The Military Evaluation Program provides for the evaluation of military training and education, and translates courses and occupations held by Service members into college credit recommendations. The actual type and amount of credit awarded depends on the policies of the college or university and the Service member's academic goals. If accepted by civilian education colleges and universities, these recommended college credits may then be applied toward a college degree or a vocational certificate that may lead to career and educational advancement. Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC)

The SOC program provides for a cooperative civilian and DoD effort to aid the postsecondary education community in understanding and meeting the educational needs and problems of Service members. The principle results of the SOC Program are distinct student services, counseling , rules and arrangements which facilitate and enhance access to educational opportunities for Service members and veterans. Third Party Assessment Program

The purpose of the Third Party Assessment is to assess the quality of off-duty post-secondary educational programs and services used by Service members regardless of location or duty assignment and to assist in the improvement of these education programs and services. This periodic assessment will ensure the education programs provided to Service members funded by a tuition assistance program are of the same high quality and meet the same academic criteria of quality higher education.
