Program Overview

Voluntary education opportunities are available to you regardless of where you serve. As a military members serving outside of the continental U.S. (OCONUS), you have access to a variety of options to begin or continue your education. Depending on your location, you may have access to these education services:

  • Education Counseling Services

  • On-site and Online Courses
  • Academic Skills Training

Program Eligibility

All active-duty Service members (Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Coast Guard, and Air Force), as well as members of the National Guard and Reserve components located OCONUS can access educational opportunities. Some may be limited depending on location.

Regional Services

Education programs and services OCONUS vary on location. The programs, services, and schools vary.

There are three regions for OCONUS education:

  • CENTCOM (Central Command) / AFRICOM (Africa Command)
  • EUCOM (European Command, to include locations in Eastern Europe (Poland, Bulgaria, and Romania))
  • PACOM (Indo-Pacific Command)

In CENTCOM/AFRICOM, there are primarily two schools of choice for enrollment and classes: Central Texas College (CTC) and University of Maryland University College (UMUC).

In EUCOM, there are four schools: CTC, UMUC, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU), and the University of Oklahoma. In Eastern Europe, however, there are no schools providing on-site programs (or testing), but the four schools listed for EUCOM do have contracted tuition rates for their distance learning program. Service members in Eastern Europe can sign up for courses at that contracted rate.

In PACOM, there are three schools offering curriculum: Troy University, UMUC, and ERAU.
